So how did the starting left tackle of the Washington Redskins end up with a nickname like “Silverback”? Well, as we all know right-handed quarterbacks have a blind side and its the left tackle who is mainly responsible for protecting the quarterback on pass plays. The “Silverback” nickname comes from the huge alpha male gorillas known for their protective nature and his leadership.
One of the major problems our team had last season and previous seasons is our Oline had injuries, there was not enough depth. and we probably needed better players in some positions of the Oline. In my view the only one that impressed me last season consistently was Trent Williams, our Pro Bowl Left Tackle. I believe nearly everyone would agree that our Oline needs to be addressed.
“Well if you want to be political and say on paper, I think all the ESPN guys and all the bloggers will probably say the Dallas Cowboys. But in my eyes, I already think we’re going to surprise a lot of people this year. I’ll say once again, I’m excited about the new additions that have come in. Really, we just have to kind of build a camaraderie.
So once the season starts and we’re ahead full speed, I think we’re gonna surprise a lot of people, and a lot of people are really gonna be saying, “Wow, those guys are pretty good!” So once the season starts — I’m not gonna put too much pressure on us — but I think we’ll be the team to beat this year.”
“The Washington Redskins are on the clock. With the 5th pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select Brandon Scherff”
With that pick, Bill Callahan will have another good prospect for our Oline to pass-protect our quarterback and run-block for our running backs. Our Oline needed help, mainly at right guard and I believe Brandon Scherff will be our starting right guard when the season opens. Hopefully we will get two more good Oline guys in this draft.
The bottom line: Jay Gruden has named Robert Griffin III as the starting quarterback for this 2015 season. It’s Griffin’s job to keep, or lose as the case may be – but short of injury expect him to keep it.
As of this writing, the Washington Redskins record is 3 and 7 and in the basement of the NFC East Division. Coming off their 6th straight loss, losing another game to the Dallas Cowboys they could have and should have won. Those who are negative will say this has been a “wasted season”, and blame and point fingers. Continue reading →
